Vivace is registered with the Feline Association of South Australia [FASA] and the Governing Council of the Cat fancy of SA [GCSA]. We show our cats regularly - this is largely to give the public an opportunity to see these breeds. Somalis in particular are not well-known. We  have achieved a good deal of show success, including many best in group and best of breed placings. We have also bred several "Somalis of the Year" , Abyssinians of the year, and also Group 3 desexed cat of the year, and National Abyssinian awards. We have also won best group 3 prefix in FASA in 2003, 2005 and 2006 & 2007. The cats we take out revel in the attention; they are natural show-offs and do attract a lot of attention from other exhibitors and public alike!

Vivace Cattery was established in 2000 in Adelaide, South Australia. It is operated by Evelyn and Rita Bruche

Our first Somali cats were Sarek, Tomalak and Lovok from the Biegatti cattery. Testament to this breeds' addictive nature :-) this interest led to exhibiting and then breeding.
We became interested in the silver colours,  As they say "fools rush in" :-) and we began our breeding career not only by importing cats from Denmark, but by working with Silver Somalis! Well, many said we were mad, however we don't believe in half-measures so with the addition of a local [from Queensland] tawny Somali, and a Silver Aby from NSW, Vivace Cattery was born.  Now we have expanded to breeding non-silver colours.

It is a great source of joy to us to see the subsequent generations of these cats bringing happiness to their new families. You can share this with our family albums... lots of happy cats in happy homes.

Also on this site you can meet the breeding cats, past, present and future, learn about the characteristics of the Somali and Abyssinian breeds and see many, many pictures of these gorgeous cats. There are also articles and  info sheets available for download, along with our cattery brochure. Please email us if you would like more information on anything, and check our kittens page for availablity of kittens.

Please be advised that the site is graphics intensive - please be patient!

We hope you enjoy your visit.

How it Started
Somalis and Abys love to be the centre of attention. Not only have our cats "starred" at shows, but they have been featured in print and internet media. Photographers from Whiskas visited to take some pictures for a breed poster - they stayed hours longer than planned, and took 40 rolls of film as the cats kept performing with such enthusiasm! Three of our cats represent their breed on the Whiskas Cat Breeds of the World poster, and new pictures keep popping up on the Whiskas, Dine and Catmatch websites. follow the links and see how many you can spot!
Our cats live in the house with us where possible, and outside in spacious runs when necessary. We make sure that we have lots of contact with them and we do whatever we can to ensure that they are as happy as possible. This includes keeping cats in groups [including the males] and keeping their working lives short so that they can go back to their main function in life, as companion animals. We are always looking to improve and extend their living quarters.
We maintain an ongoing testing program for PK-deficiency, and do not conduct any matings that could result in affected cats. [for more info on this heritable disorder, see Breeds page]

To maintain kitten placement policies that are in accordance with responsible cat ownership and have minimal impact on the environment
To increase the local and international gene pools by creating new and diverse bloodlines and importing new cats
To provide an ongoing advisory role to kitten buyers to enhance their enjoyment of their family companion.
To promote and increase the good reputation of our chosen breeds
To ensure that our breeding practices do not compromise the well-being of any individual cat or cats.
To leave a lasting positive contribution to our breeds
